5 Lifehacks to Stop Procrastinate

Instead of doing something that you’ve been planning to do for a long time, you’re constantly surfing the Internet, reading articles, commenting, communicating on social networks, watching the series. To be short, because of some unknown force of nature, you decided to take time, instead of tackling the implementation of your plans.

Fortunately, procrastination is not a disease. It is just a mental habit that can be changed. However, here are a few reminders to remember so that the tips work.

  • First, you must admit that procrastination is an unhealthy habit. It ruins your plans and uses your most valuable resource – time.
  • Secondly, your readiness for change is very important. You must be physically, emotionally, mentally tuned to change this habit. If not, then you will simply succumb to tempting bait to do other things, not your tasks or deeds.

Here are some tips to increase productivity and keep yourself from being idle at work and home:

1. (10 + 2) * 5 mode

Let's start with the classic but very effective (10 + 2) * 5 method created by Merlin Mann (author of Do not worry, this is not a complex mathematical formula that you have to solve. (10 + 2) * 5 means 10 minutes of work + 2 minutes break, multiplied by 5, the result is 1 hour. It is important to adhere to this time frame without missing the work and not breaking the schedule. The point is to create a schedule of work and rest. Result? As this habit sets in, you may miss your scheduled break and need less rest.

Define a time frame for your task.

Like any other habit, procrastination can be replaced by another habit. The main thing is to set goals and set deadlines for each step. Let's say you have a task. Here is a sample schedule:

9:00 a.m. - 9:10 a.m. - set up all your tools, browser bookmarks, emails, etc.

9:10 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. - Internet research

10:00 - 10:45 am - view existing files

10:45 - 11:00 in the morning - a break!

11:00 - 12:00 - study report structure

Timing is the best hack to complete a task. Setting a specific time to do something creates time pressure, even if the deadline has passed.

Include a break into your schedule

What can help you make even the rest helpful is a list of all the things you want to do during the break, let it be a web surfing, checking emails, time for a snack, Facebook / Twitter - that's it. Similarly to the (10 + 2) * 5 mode, do it in between work, but the difference is that these activities fit in 20 minutes. In the end, you will use your break wisely.

Use red and blue

Clean your desk and get rid of things that may distract you. According to a study on which colors enhance brain function, red is thought to increase attention to detail, while blue promotes creativity. Surround the workplace with these colors, and you will get not only benefits for your brain but also a pleasure to the eyes.

Assign yourself a controller

It can be your colleague, your boss or your soulmate, anyone who has an inexorable share of courage to reprimand you when you procrastinate. You could complete one of the unfinished tasks whenever you open Facebook or watch funny cat videos on YouTube.

If you had to pay a certain amount of money each time you delay completing tasks, you would stop procrastinating, right?
